Seed quality
is a factor that plays a huge role in determining yield. Yet
all too often, seed buying decisions are made on maturity,
genetics and traits alone. While those aspects are important
to a successful stand, better quality seed is critical to
maximizing yield. And consistently delivering high quality
seed has set Wensman apart from the very beginning of our
company.
Wensman’s track record on germination is outstanding. Over 80% of
our seed the past five years has been laboratory tested at 98%
germination or better.
Healthy vigorous seed gets out of the ground quickly and
establishes a uniform stand. And it is simple to equate more
plants per acre to higher yields and greater profit.
Consider the grower who plants at 30,000 seeds per acre.
The difference between 98% germination and 93% germination is
substantial – 1,500 more plants per acre! And with an
estimated 6 bushels for every 1,000 plants, the better
germinating corn will deliver 9 more bushels per acre!
I am convinced that Wensman’s seed quality is unsurpassed
in the industry. Our experienced field production team knows
how to grow hybrid seed corn. Their performance record is
evidence that they have mastered both the science and art of
crossing corn.|
This expertise carries on through the drying and
conditioning process as well. The Wensman state-of-the-art
plant in Wadena, Minnesota is a model for “best practice” seed
handling. A well-trained and dedicated crew carefully
monitors the flow of seed from field to bag, ensuring you the
best seed possible. The recent addition of a computerized
“seed color sorter” represents our commitment to always have
the latest innovation in quality control equipment in our
plant.
High quality, high germination seed is the #1 priority of
the Wensman Production Team. We’ve met or exceeded our goals
since Day One and are committed to that effort going forward.
This is what separates Wensman from the competition. |
